As a Material Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable operations of our Saint John Refinery. Your goal will be to work with the Asset Integrity team, supporting both daily operations and project work within the refining environment. Your success will come from applying your expertise in materials, corrosion, and inspection to assess risk and recommend effective short- and long-term solutions that strengthen the asset integrity program.

Your Responsibilities:
Provide guidance on material selection for pressure retaining components to support replacement, maintenance, and new installations
Assist the Area Inspectors develop inspection plans suitable for expected damage mechanisms of vessels and piping

Assist in monitoring and analysis of integrity operating windows (IOWS) used to monitor variables that lead to degradation of vessels and piping
Review Management of Change items that may affect the degradation of materials in service
Report to the Asset Integrity Group Leader issues of concern that affect the risk of operating vessels and piping
Evaluate and provide recommendations on the replacement of degraded vessels and piping
Assist in determining estimated corrosion rates for vessels and piping
Assist in providing fitness for service and remaining life assessments of pressure retaining components
Transfer corrosion, inspection, and materials knowledge to other engineers and inspectors to assist them in their roles
Works with inspectors and engineers to maintain accurate and current inspection data into Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), and Inspection Management Software. Research and resolve data anomalies
Provides support for inspection technical reviews, projects, and studies by collaborating with inspectors/engineers on tasks such as, but not limited to, mean time to failure and corrosion rate calculations, loss of containment reviews
Your Skills:
Strong analytical skills; you enjoy getting to the root cause of issues and creating plans to address them
Willingness to learn and adhere to all company standards, industry recommended practices, codes and standards
A focus on continuous improvement; able to work with others to come up with solutions that minimize downtime and maximize equipment function, minimize refinery risks
Strong technical report writing skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of MS office applications, particularly Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
Your Experience:
University degree in engineering and / or materials science
Knowledge of complex engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
Experience in a heavy, industrial environment; oil and gas preferred
PEng designation is a definite asset
Good working knowledge of ASME, API codes, NACE Standards
Experience with Meridium Asset History database considered an asset
Experience with all types of mechanical static equipment (pressure vessels, fired heaters, tanks, heat exchangers, etc.) and piping components utilized in the oil refining
Experience with welding is an asset
Working knowledge of corrosion and damage mechanisms associated with refinery service
Specialty in metallurgy/ Materials engineering an asset
