Position Summary: Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine maintenance activities of all Tribal facilities including rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, bathhouses, cabins, furniture, rugs/carpet, window coverings, counter tops, etc.
- Service, clean, and replenish bathroom supplies including sharps container supplies.
- Gather and empty trash in waste disposal areas and dispose of waste from sharps container program to an approved red bag and medical waste treatment location.
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors. Follow procedures for the use power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Dump, change water, and sterilize portables sinks in Health Services Department.
- Clean glass partitions, and mirrors.
- Clean Elders Housing and other tribal properties before and after resident moves.
- Assist with set up of tables and facilities for miscellaneous Department meetings and the set-up of the Community Services building for events and meetings.
- Maintain a safe workplace; monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Perform minor equipment repairs and plumbing repairs and/or notify Lead Facilities Housekeeper concerning the need for repairs.
- Work collaboratively with Department teams (both in the Housing and Facilities Department and other Departments) to ensure services are provided and the highest levels of service are maintained.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assist with air conditioner loan program by delivering units to users.
- Assist with inventory and requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Attend various Tribal events to maintain facilities during events.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Equipment:
- Two-way radios, floor polishers, floor scrubbers, floor strippers, vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuum.
- Uniform required.
- Protective gear required (handling chemicals, handling maintenance of Sharps containers).
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Strong sense of service required.
- Experience in janitorial or housekeeping required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet insurance requirements to utilize Pokagon Band vehicles.
Indian Preference:
- Pokagon Band Preference Code applies.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and crawl.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and push/pull heavier equipment.
Work Environment:
- General office environment. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
- Local travel is necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required.
