Job Summary:

Tangram seeks an exceptional, experienced, and proven financial leader to join an extraordinary, independent, and fast-growing company. As part of the leadership group of a Managing General Agency, Brokerage and Program Management organization, this person will have financial influence on all aspects of the business. The position will be responsible for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, audit, financial planning and analysis, ERP implementation and administration, mergers and acquisitions integrations, and other business partnership functions needed to support the business.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and working knowledge of finance operating procedures, internal controls and segregation of duties, balance sheet reconciliations, GAAP principles, budgeting, taxation, audit engagement management, and ERP accounting systems.  The ideal candidate will also have a passion for financial insights and the ability to explain them to all levels of management.

The VP of Finance – Corporate Controller will plan, build, and coordinate all Balavant accounting operational functions. Over the next 3-6 months, Balavant intends to implement a new ERP system and a new HRIS system.  In addition, the company will evaluate needed software such as Agency Management Systems, Policy Administration Systems, travel and expense management systems, to ensure company business needs are met. 

 

Responsibilities:

The VP of Finance – Corporate Controller will be responsible for the following items:

  • Partners with the CFO to recruit, build, train, and enhance teammates to build an elite finance team.
  • Responsible for company consolidations and financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partners with the CFO on monthly and quarterly Board and investor reporting.
  • Responsible for the entire balance sheet, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Responsible for internal controls and segregation of duties to safeguard company assets.
  • Responsible for audit and taxation engagements with the external auditors.
  • Partners with the CFO on tax planning and tax expenditure efficiencies while achieving full federal and state tax compliance.
  • Partners with the CFO for the annual zero-based budget process for Balavant and all portfolio companies.
  • Responsible for acquisition integrations, monitoring acquisition performance versus pro forma targets, and earn-out calculations.
  • Partners with the CFO and Balavant leadership team for the overall financial planning and analysis function, including monthly flux reporting, creation and maintenance of production metrics dashboards, payroll and HR metrics, and other KPI metrics and dashboards needed by management to run the business.  
  • Responsible for partnering with the CFO in selecting, integrating, and administering the ERP General Ledger and Financial Reporting System and the Travel and Expense Reporting systems.
  • Responsible for working with portfolio company finance personnel in streamlining and automating financial operating procedures across Agency Management Systems and Policy Administration Systems.
  • Responsible for the management of banking and treasury functions. Partners with the CFO on cash planning, investments, and cash liquidity optimization.
  • Responsible for managing and reconciling intercompany receivables and payables and settling balances between Balavant and Balavant portfolio companies.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting and finance operations
  • Minimum of 3 years of significant finance leadership experience
  • Bachelor of Science or Arts in accounting and or in accounting and finance
  • Ability to work in a team environment and strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective analytical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently
  • Experience with financial reporting ERP systems and requirements (including implementation).
  • Strong technology skills with solid knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to explain complex subjects well to all levels of management
  • Ability to Make an Impact: Inspired to perform well by the ability to contribute to the success of the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active or Inactive CPA certification
  • Master of Accountancy or MBA secondary degree
  • Financial accounting experience in the MGA field or an insurance-related industry.

 

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $200,000. The offer will depend on the geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
