Description

Job Goal: To engage in an immersive learning experience supporting students in Capital Area Intermediate Unit classrooms. Placements may include but are not limited to, The Capital Area Early Learning Center, Hill Top Academy, community-based Early Intervention sites, and district-based special education classrooms. During this paid experience, cooperative education students will be paired with an educator from the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. Throughout the internship experience, students will complete a variety of activities focusing on planning and implementing instruction and activities. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in team meetings, observe evaluations, attend and participate in professional development training, assist with data collection, and create materials aligned to a child’s Individualized Education Program. This comprehensive experience will help prepare students for continued education and/or potential employment in the field of special education.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Learn to create a learning environment emphasizing respect and achievement
2. Engage students in using multiple modalities
3. Demonstrate professionalism when working with students, families, and staff 
4. Observe and participate in IEP, Evaluation, and Re-evaluation meetings.
5. Observe speech and occupational therapy sessions, and group therapy sessions.
6. Observe and participate in consultations with behavior, instructional, and compliance coaches.
7. Plan and Co-plan lessons with mentor and implement as written
8. Review student goals and progress
9. Collect and enter daily behavior data
10. Participate in weekly team meeting with classroom teams
11. Attend and participate in student-related and program-related specific meetings
12. Learn about and have opportunities to implement different educational technologies
13. Attend and participate in possible educational field trips
14. Provide individualized instruction with support from classroom staff
15. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor or his/her designee.
16. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

1. High school Junior or Senior in good academic standing
2. Cooperative Education Student with approval from CTE instructor, Cooperative Education Coordinator, Director of CTE, or similar position
