ROLE PURPOSE
To lead and coordinate cable installation activities on the Sellafield site, ensuring all works are carried out safely, to specification, and in compliance with site standards and nuclear regulations. The Leading Cable Hand will supervise a small team, allocate tasks, maintain progress, and ensure that quality and safety standards are consistently achieved.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Lead, organise, and supervise cable installation teams on a day-to-day basis.
• Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to work schedules.
• Act as the point of contact between supervisors and the workforce.
• Oversee the installation, pulling, dressing, terminating, and testing of cables.
• Ensure work is delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and Sellafield standards.
• Identify and resolve installation issues promptly to minimise delays.
• Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all Sellafield safety rules and nuclear site licence conditions.
• Conduct point-of-work risk assessments, toolbox talks, and daily briefings.
• Ensure permits to work, method statements, and risk assessments are adhered to at all times.
• Monitor quality of installation and ensure work is inspected and recorded to required standards.
• Liaise with supervisors, planners, engineers, and other trades to coordinate activities.
• Provide progress updates and escalate issues that may impact delivery.
• Support training and mentoring of less experienced cable hands.
PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
The following qualities/experience are essential:
• ECS / CSCS Card.
• Manual Handling, Working at Height, and Cable Pulling competency training.
• IOSH Working Safely or equivalent (desirable).
• First Aid at Work (desirable).
