Jamestown Community College, a SUNY institution, is a comprehensive community college with degree granting campuses in Jamestown and Olean, New York. Position Description:

Full-time. The Director of Career Services provides leadership, strategic direction, and management of the college�s comprehensive career development, internship, and employment services. This position works collaboratively college-wide and with external partners to support student success and career readiness.

Essential Functions:

1. Leadership & Administration

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate all aspects of Career Services, including career counseling, job placement, internships, and employer relations.
  • Develop and manage department budget, staffing, and operational plans.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and relevant regulations.

2. Career Development Programs

  • Oversee delivery of career exploration, career planning, and employment preparation services (resume workshops, mock interviews, job fairs).
  • Integrate career readiness competencies into curriculum and student programming.
  • Maintain up-to-date career resource materials, labor market trends, and technology platforms.

3. Employer & Community Partnerships

  • Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national employers to enhance student internship and job opportunities.
  • Coordinate on-campus recruitment events, job fairs, and employer panels.

4. Student Advising & Support

  • Provide or supervise one-on-one and group career counseling to diverse student populations.
  • Support students with internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, and transfer pathways.

5. On Campus Services

  • Co-leads on-campus student employment program alongside Human Resources, Financial Aid, and the Business Office, providing support to both on campus supervisors and students.
  • Co-manages the oversight of the J. Hawk Career closet, including donations, inventory, supplies, marketing, events, budget, and student workers.

6. Assessment & Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data on student outcomes, employer engagement, and program effectiveness.
  • Prepare reports for accreditation, institutional research, and grant requirements.

7. Collaboration & Outreach

  • Partner with faculty, advising, student life, and alumni relations to strengthen career pathways.
  • Serve on campus committees related to student success and workforce development.

III. Job Competencies

  • Strong leadership, supervision, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Data-driven decision-making and assessment skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with employers and community organizations.

IV. Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor�s degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field plus a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in career services, workforce development, or related area. Knowledge of current labor market trends, career development theories, and employer engagement strategies. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred: Master�s Experience with community college populations. Grant writing and program development experience. Familiarity with online career services platforms (e.g., Handshake, Symplicity).

Additional Information:

Salary: $56,906.-$63,470. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
