KYTX-TV CBS19 , the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Tyler, Texas, is searching for a motivated, people-oriented and story-focused leader to serve as Assistant News Director. This role requires a leader who will be the architect of impactful story development and will shape those stories into the best formats for distribution across the station's streaming, digital and linear platforms.

The Assistant News Director is central to shaping the station’s future in an always-on, 24/7 environment, ensuring content is optimized for audience engagement, platform relevance and community impact.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Leadership
Oversee daily news coverage across all platforms, with an emphasis on streaming.
Lead breaking news response and special coverage planning.
Coach and mentor producers, reporters, and digital journalists.

Streaming & Digital Strategy

Develop and execute a content strategy for streaming platforms, linear TV and mobile apps emphasizing vertical video creation.
Optimize workflows for 24/7 content delivery across screens.
Drive innovation in storytelling formats (e.g., vertical video, interactive live streams).

Strategic Planning

Collaborate with News Director and corporate leadership on long-term content and platform goals.
Identify and implement new technologies and partnerships to expand reach.
Align newsroom operations with evolving audience behaviors and platform trends.

Audience Growth & Engagement

Use analytics to guide editorial decisions and audience development.
Implement SEO, push alerts, newsletters, and social media strategies.
Foster community engagement through digital-first initiatives.

Team Management

Lead an expert team of reporters, producers, and digital editors.
Provide continuous feedback to staff and guide their professional development.
Promote a culture of collaboration, experimentation, and accountability.

Qualifications

2+ years in news leadership, with experience in both broadcast and digital.
Proven success in managing teams and growing multi-platform audiences.
Deep understanding of streaming platforms, OTT content, and digital analytics.
Strong editorial judgment, communication skills, and strategic thinking.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
