Master’s degree in Education. 

Virginia Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement. 

3-5 years of experience working with students with disabilities, ideally in a therapeutic or alternative education setting. 

Instructional Leadership: Serve as the TEC program lead teacher, managing a team of staff and overseeing academic instruction, as well as a classroom of up to 8 students. 

Lesson Planning: Develop and implement grade-level lesson plans aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs). 

IEP Implementation: Design instruction to meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. 

Assessment & Differentiation: Use varied assessment tools to guide instruction and differentiate based on student needs. 

Behavioral Support: Collaborate with Behavior Analysts and Clinical Leads to implement behavior intervention strategies. 

Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment, especially for students with challenging behaviors. 

Staff Supervision: Lead and supervise Teachers, Teaching Assistants, ensuring clarity of expectations and effective team coordination. 

Communication & Collaboration: Engage with families, school divisions, and service providers to support student success. 

Must be prepared to work in environments where students may exhibit aggressive or self-injurious behaviors. 

Emotional resilience and the ability to debrief and seek support after incidents are emphasized. 

Design coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.  

Design appropriate and differentiated instruction for both the general/regular curriculum in the appropriate subject area(s), and differentiated instruction for the special education, and adaptive curriculum.  

Plans instruction to achieve desired IEP goals and objectives, and objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning.  

Plans instruction to challenge students in the general education curriculum, and as guided by objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning  

Assess individual, group, and program needs, and selects appropriate materials and resources to match the abilities and needs of all students.  

Uses a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-term instructional decisions to improve student learning.  

Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations and documents student learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments.  

Understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and is able to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student’s needs.  

Uses comprehensive materials, technology, and resources that promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.  

Selects, evaluates, and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement of students and improvement of student learning.  

Actively implements a discipline policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for students and staff.  

Manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time.  

Establishes and maintains professional rapport with students and staff.  

Creates a supportive learning environment for all students that encourages social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.  

Uses effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster positive interactions in the classroom.  

Develops partnerships with families to promote student learning at home and in the school.

Mentor and coach less experienced or provisionally licensed teachers, offering feedback and guidance
