About the Department
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the Driver position with the Broward Addiction Recovery Division.
The Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC) has been serving Broward County residents since 1973 and, with strong support from the Board of County Commissioners and the community, continues to expand services to meet the needs of adults affected by substance use and co-occurring disorders. In 2018, BARC opened its flagship “BARC Central,” a 48,900 sq. ft. LEED Gold Certified facility offering inpatient detoxification and withdrawal management, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), and Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP). BARC provides a full continuum of care—including detoxification, residential, outpatient, intensive outpatient, and case management services—supported by a multidisciplinary team of medical, clinical, and support staff. Accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, BARC is recognized nationally for its innovative programs and award-winning facility. Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Responsible for transporting both male and female adults who are receiving treatment for chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.
Drives clients to and from doctors’ appointments, the courthouse, probation office, the DMV, Social Security Administration, halfway houses, group meetings, mental health clinic, hospital, or other approved locations
Picks up and delivers medical records, money, supplies, client belongings, documents, interoffice mail, client medication, donations, and other approved items to approved locations.
Maintains driving logs, cleans vehicle, and schedules and takes the County vehicle to fleet services for regular maintenance and repairs.
Reads maps and uses predetermined routes, delivering items to various locations throughout the County.
May be required to drive within the tri-county area.
May need to use cell phone apps to determine best driving routes, answer emails and complete other tasks.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
