Job Description:

Customer site - Buelah, ND

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role based on-site at a refinery in Beulah, ND. The Customer Reliability Engineer or Technical Specialist works side by side with the customer’s maintenance and reliability teams to keep critical equipment running smoothly.

You’ll be the local technical partner for the site, inspecting failed components, finding causes, and recommending practical solutions that extend equipment life and improve reliability. This is not a design engineering or office-based role; it’s about being in the field, solving problems, and helping the customer operate more efficiently.

  • Work daily on-site with the customer’s engineers, mechanics, and reliability team.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate rotating equipment and mechanical seal performance.
  • Conduct inspections, prepare failure reports, and recommend improvements to increase equipment uptime.
  • Support installation, start-up, and repair of John Crane products.
  • Track performance data and report trends to the account manager and regional engineering team.
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities through reliability improvement.
  • Maintain safe work practices and follow all customer site requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, but not required. Equivalent technical or field experience strongly considered.
  • Prior experience with rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, or maintenance/reliability preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn new systems and tools.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills; comfortable interacting with customer personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office required; SAP or equivalent systems a plus).
  • CNC programming and machining knowledge a plus but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Beulah, ND five days a week.

**Note: We will train the right candidate on mechanical seals and John Crane products.
