About the Opportunity:
Brown University’s School of Professional Studies (SPS) brings a Brown education to new audiences of learners: those focused on the development of skills and a breadth of knowledge necessary for professional success and leadership. We leverage Brown’s intellectual centers of excellence, rigorous teaching, and developmental approach to learning in a range of programs, including serving students outside of traditional degree programs. We partner with Brown departments, centers, institutes, and schools to develop degree and non-degree programs, and to support the recruitment, retention, and placement success of master’s students, including traditional, non-traditional, and professional students.
Responsibilities:
The Content Specialist is responsible for sharing the story of the School of Professional Studies and its growing portfolio of master’s, non-degree and mindfulness programs through engaging content and storytelling. This role will work in close collaboration with the members of the SPS marketing and communications team and key stakeholders in SPS and in departments across the University to build a content strategy that focuses on the creation of content for web, newsletters, social, email, podcasts, blogs and other organic marketing tactics. Specific responsibilities include generating stories about programs, alumni, faculty, etc. Experience interviewing and writing (short- and long-format), editing and research for content development required. social media best practices required.
The Content Specialist will be responsible for:
Developing engaging content across a variety of school and program-level initiatives
Building a content calendar and ensuring timely execution
Manage two brand-level social media accounts; developing posts and monitoring comments and engagement
Researching subject matter, conducting interviews and drafting stories that support the mission and vision of SPS
Collaborating with colleagues within SPS and across the University to promote stories and generate new content for various audiences
Maintaining Brown and SPS’ visual identity, editorial standards and social media best practices
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or similar
3+ years content creation, communications, marketing or related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Job Competencies
Superb writing, editing, proofreading and verbal communication skills
Firm understanding search engine optimization tactics
Understanding of KPIs for content
Excellent organization, project management and content production skills involving the execution of multiple, simultaneous projects
Ability to meet stringent deadlines, work effectively and troubleshoot in a high-volume, ever-changing work environment
Working knowledge of Google Suite
Preferred Job Competencies
Experience working with Slate or other CRM systems
Experience with vendor management
Knowledge of HTML and email service provider platforms
Experience with social media management platforms, Sprout or other
Experience in higher education storytelling; ability to conduct interviews for featured subjects
Experience with layout/design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
