The City of West Allis is currently recruiting for the position of Electrical Worker in the Electrical Division of the Department of Public Works—ideal candidates will have experience operating locating devices for directional drill machines, vacuum excavators, and other equipment.

- Drilling and using a vacuum excavator in various conditions, assisting Electricians with installations and repairs of street lighting and traffic signals.
- Reading and interpreting plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities
- Monitoring electronic guidance and locating equipment during the drilling phases.
- Carrying out minor maintenance and repair, including lubrication and cleaning
- Operating equipment such as Directional Drill Operator, Backhoe, Vacuum Excavator, Derrick Digger, Front End Loader, and Dump truck
- Assist in snow removal and ice control operations. As needed, an employee in this classification may be required to perform a variety of tasks outside the duties of an Electrical Worker for which he/she is otherwise qualified, in order to address work request demands adequately.
Education, Training, and Experience:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Two (2) years of previous experience, preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
- You must have a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Within 12 months of your appointment, you must obtain a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License (Class B, C with air brakes) and a Tanker (N) endorsement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- You should be familiar with the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance.
- You must be aware of job hazards and adhere to safe work practices.
- You should be skilled in using standard hand tools and equipment.
- The ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks and interpret rough sketches or layouts is essential.
- You should be able to operate both standard and automatic vehicles.
- You must understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
- You should have good mechanical aptitude and make sound judgments.
- You must handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and quickly learn new software.
- You should be familiar with using standard computer applications and mobile devices, such as iPads.
- You must show the ability to drive innovation and support continuous improvement.
- Recent experience interacting with the public is a plus.
