I. Position Information

Title: Summer Resident Assistant 

Division: Student Affairs 

Department: Residence Life

DATES: Monday, May 18, 2026 - Sunday, August 9, 2026 (12 WEEKS)

 

II. Position Summary

The Summer Resident Assistant works closely with other Residence Life staff members and students to foster a community environment within the residence halls and apartments. This position will support student summer housing, conference housing, and provide administrative assistance in the Residence Life Office. The Summer Resident Assistant will staff student and conference arrivals and departures. The position reports directly to the Residence Hall Directors and/or Director of Housing and Residence Life.

III. Reports to:

Direct Report to: Senior Residence Hall Director

Indirect Report to: Director of Housing & Residence Life, Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life


IV. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Housing & Residence Life and summer residents, including conference participants
  • Prepare keys, documents, and check-in packets for each summer resident and conference group assigned
  • Administrative activities related to the operation of their building, including but not limited to processing work orders, on-call duty, turning in reports, processing check-ins and check-outs for students, conference guests, etc
  • Provide excellent customer service to all summer residents and conference guests
  • Assist in the preparation of rooms and facilities for the summer guests
  • Provide administrative office support of a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Service in weekly on-call duty rotation in the evenings (7 pm-7 am)
  • Attend meetings as requested by the Residence Life Administrative Team
  • Maintain a presence in the building and be available to students/guests
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Inspect rooms and common areas and process work orders for maintenance/cleaning issues
  • Complete room condition reports for all rooms utilized during summer and potentially other rooms for the fall semester
  • Role model and uphold University policies and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Respond to resident and building crisis
  • Create informational bulletin boards and hold floor meetings, as needed
  • Maintain communication with the Residence Hall Director, Director of Housing & Residence Life, and other Resident Assistants in the hall
  • Open/close the office with Summer RA
  • Other duties as assigned

VI. Education and Experience

  • Customer-service experience
  • Previous Resident Assistant experience
  • Conference services and/or event management experience

VII. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, team management, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to engage others through a shared process while serving as a primary decision maker
  • This is a live-on student staff position

VIII. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and require a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 10 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity.

 

IX. Other Requirements:

  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
  • Duties involve working in a community and office setting and require intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking on inclines and declines
  • Must be able to lift 20lbs, traverse the campus with ease, climb a lot of stairs, have excellent motor skills, and be able to sit or stand for 30 minutes at a time. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand
