About the Department

Alabama State University, Academic Affairs/College of Health Sciences, invites applications to fill the position of Associate Dean.  The successful applicant will report to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.  He or she will assist the Dean with providing vision, leadership and advocacy for the college, its programs, faculty and staff in the departments of Health Information Management, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, and Rehabilitation Studies.  The Associate Dean will assist in facilitating college operations, academic and research initiatives, and faculty and student development.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the overall operation of COHS and the Dean's Office 
  • Assess and develop college and departmental operational procedures and staffing
  • Assist with the day-to-day activities and challenges within the college
  • Provide administrative oversight of student academic regulations and records including certifying undergraduate degree requirements
  • Assist the Dean and the department chairs with the collection of strategic planning data related to teaching, courses, and academic programs within the college
  • Facilitate department and college-wide instructional assessment programs
  • Coordinate faculty/staff volunteers for Fall/Spring Recruitment Initiatives
  • Assist the Dean with faculty research support, and faculty development in the college;
  • Provide support for the development of interdisciplinary funding proposals and new initiatives 
  • Serve as the Dean's representative as needed and perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution 
  • A distinguished academic record in one of the fields of the College, or related health sciences/allied health discipline
  • Experience and credentials to qualify for the rank of associate professor or professor in one of the College's academic departments
  • Five years of successful academic leadership at the level of department chair or above is preferred
  • Exemplary research or professional experience will also be considered.
