Job Summary
Reporting to the VP of Architecture and Urban Design, the Art Program Manager leads the strategic planning and implementation of Austin Transit Partnership’s (ATP) public art program. This role is responsible for integrating diverse, meaningful artwork into the Light Rail project, reflecting Austin’s culture and enhancing the rider experience. The Art Program Manager collaborates with artists, community stakeholders, and design and construction teams to ensure artistic alignment with ATP’s vision. Responsibilities include managing art contracts and budgets, developing partnerships, and leading community engagement for the art program to support the goals of Austin Light Rail and the city's evolving transit needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Develop and manage the public art program for the ATP, ensuring that the process, integration, and artworks align with Austin Light Rail’s goals, budget, and timeline
- Collaborate with artists, community stakeholders, partners, contractors, and others to gather input from diverse communities and ensure that artworks reflect Austin’s cultural and social landscape, and is constructable, safe and maintainable
- Curate a diverse and accessible selection of art that contributes to the overall design and user experience of the light rail system
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing construction and installation projects associated with public art and design
- Manage contracts with artists, designers, architects, conservators, and other design professionals
- Coordinate with the ATP communications and community engagement teams to highlight the public art program through community events, partnerships with local organizations and other outreach opportunities
- Serve as the primary liaison regarding public art with other ATP departments, partner organizations, contractors, and artists, facilitating seamless communication and cooperation
- Prepare and present to management, Board, outside agencies, and the public
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Administration, Art, Art History, Urban Planning, Communication, Education, Public Administration, or a related field
- Seven years of experience in art management positions, including experience in program and policy development, curation, selections, contract administration, implementation and ongoing program management
- OR An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with the required qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and project timelines. Prior experience in governmental purchasing under federal grant programs is preferred
- Strong understanding of community engagement, public art best practices, and transit systems
- Excellent communication and organizational skills and comfort presenting to audiences both large and small. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams to deliver integrated projects
- Familiarity with Austin’s artistic and cultural landscape
- Must be proficient in using business and communications software, preferably Microsoft Office 365 which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work is generally performed in an office environment, but occasionally requires attendance at public meetings, stakeholder meetings, and/or job sites. ATP promotes a safe and healthy work environment and provides appropriate safety and equipment training for all employees as required.
