Schedule: Rotational Shifts (Days/Nights/Weekends)

About the Role

Paladin Security is looking for a reliable and compassionate Full-Time Security Guard to join the Mental Health Unit team at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
This position plays a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors in a dynamic healthcare environment. The ideal candidate has prior healthcare or mental health security experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols across hospital premises, including entrances, parking areas, and hallways.
• Monitor security systems (cameras, alarms) and respond quickly to any suspicious or emergency activity.
• Enforce access control at restricted areas and verify authorized personnel.
• Respond promptly to emergencies such as medical incidents, fire alarms, or security threats.
• De-escalate tense or aggressive situations, using verbal intervention and professionalism.
• Work collaboratively with healthcare staff and local authorities as needed.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain accurate incident reports and daily activity logs.

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

• Valid Ontario Security Guard License
• Valid First Aid & CPR – Level C (from a WSIB-approved vendor)
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (minimum two doses)
• Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella, and two-step TB skin test
• Valid G Class Driver’s License
• Fluent in English (oral and written)
• Legally authorized to work in Canada
• Previous experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or mental health support

Preferred Experience

• Experience working directly with mental health patients or in a hospital environment
• Strong interpersonal and de-escalation skills
• Familiarity with hospital safety and emergency protocols
