About the Department

The position will be primarily responsible for system administration of all agency servers and the management/security of desktop and mobile computers. The position will be exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and will report to the IT Manager of Servers, System and Security. This position adheres to the agency core values of honesty and integrity, accountability, teamwork, trust and respect and commitment to excellence.  To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate competency in data entry and retrieval skills, time management skills, advanced computer skills, general communication skills (both written and oral), inter-personal skills, customer service skills and problem-solving skills.  

Position Duties

  1. Set up and maintain Microsoft Windows servers in line with existing standards and best practices.
  2. Maintain and support Active Directory infrastructure to include but not limited to group policy, file and share permissions, access audits, and regular review of security logs.
  3. Support basic Information Technology standards in the areas of inventory, data protection, security, patch management, and monitoring.
  4. Respond to system failures and work with vendors to resolve issues related to server hardware and software.
  5. Assist in the research and deployment of new products and services.
  6. Install, configure and maintain client and 3rd party product components and subsystems.
  7. Perform regularly scheduled server hardware and software maintenance and security patches, as well as coordinating database and file system backups.
  8. Monitor and track trouble tickets and change requests to ensure high quality customer service.
  9. Work with technical support staff to analyze and resolve connectivity or product issues experienced by agency staff.
  10. Train and support technical support staff to resolve minor server and Active Directory technical issues and configuration problems.
  11. Monitor system resource usage and ensure adequate resources are available to meet the agency requirements through resource scheduling and new resource acquisition recommendations.
  12. Prepare detailed systems administration plans and level of effort cost estimates for meeting product roadmap release requirements; provide cost estimates for new hardware and software or upgrades to and maintenance of existing hardware and software.
  13. Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
  14. Maintain agency compliance to CJIS Security policy for all agency members.
  15. Ensure agency maintains compliance with applicable state and national policies governing the use of FCIC, NCIC, and Nlets systems.
  16. Serve as the Leon County Sheriff’s Office point of contact (POC) both internally and externally in CJIS matters regarding FCIC/NCIC.
  17. Serve as the primary contact for CJIS related issues/communication.
  18. Communicate effectively across the various organizational boundaries at the agency on issues related to CJIS systems.
  19. Serve as a contract manager for agreements as they relate to CJIS security policy.
  20. Ensure certification of LCSO personnel and vendors for CJIS security awareness training, monitoring, and recertification.
  21. Ensure certification of LCSO personnel for FCIC/NCIC training, monitoring and recertification.
  22. Serve as the FALCON Application Access Administrator (AAA), creating and maintaining users of the system, approving user access, providing roles and privileges to users who create and monitor Watch List records or who manage the agency’s Retained Applicant Fingerprint transactions.
  23. Coordinate preparation and conduct of Technical Auditing and Records Auditing.
  24. Understand how to manage user accounts in all software the agency uses to access FCIC/NCIC.
  25. Maintain accurate records, logs, and files.
  26. Maintain all mandated FDLE forms related to FCIC and CJIS.
  27. Maintain knowledge of the agency’s network and the as it relates to FBI CJIS Security Policy.
  28. Maintain knowledge of other CJNet applications/links accessible by their agency personnel.
  29. Maintain knowledge of the agency’s policies and procedures on maintaining records in FCIC/NCIC and enforcing that policy; ensuring records are properly maintained and modified by the users (entering agencies).
  30. Ability to work closely with others as a team.
  31. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  32. Ability to provide professional customer service skills to both the public and agency members.
  33. Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise and objective written and oral reports.
  34. Ability to meet requirements and maintain required licensures and certifications as well as agency required in-service training.
  35. Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.
  36. Ability to report to work timely, consistently and as scheduled.
  37. Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field required; OR
  • Three (3) years of experience in Information Technology (desktop and server administration) AND
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience managing a complex Active Directory environment and four (4) years' experience with Windows Server 2008 and/or 2012 required.
  • Experience working with Dual Factor Authentication applications or desktop, laptop and mobile devices preferred; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift, push, carry or pull a minimum of 50 pounds independently.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving history. 
Other Necessary Requirements
  • One relevant and current technical certification such as CompTIA (A+, Tec+, Network+,  Server+, or Linux+), MS-365 Fundamentals, Microsoft IT Professional, or Google IT Certificate preferred
  • Two or more years of related technical experience
  • Intermediate understanding of computer hardware (both physical and virtual), Windows operating systems (both Desktop and Server), Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Back Office products like Exchange, SQL Server, or Internet Information Server running Web Server Services, application management and deployment, networking and protocols, mobile systems, scripting and/or programming, client-side database configuration and management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small scale technical projects with minimal assistance or direction; ability to write basic scripts, conduct desktop and/or server application installations, install server patches and hotfixes.
