Position: Jr. Data Engineer
Location: Oak Ridge, TN (100% on-site)
Salary: $35-40k/year + benefits
Position Summary
This position will support the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) vision to ensure long-term preservation of and access to DOE scientific and technical information through the use of data engineering and machine learning (ML) tools and technologies to enhance OSTI-built web applications.
Position-Specific Duties
- Performs data engineering and ML activities related to Natural Language Processing.
- Supports data engineering solutions with the design of analytical workflows with other data scientists and developers.
- Explores and models structured and unstructured datasets to generate insights and make recommendations.
- Optimizes and deploys code into analytics workflows or smart applications.
- Keeps abreast of new analytics methods to share with the wider team and apply to projects.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education, Training, Experience
- Prefer candidates to have or be working toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, artificial intelligence or machine learning, mathematics, or related field from an accredited college or university or with equivalent background.
- 0-3 years of experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Preferred, not required)
- Experience performing data engineering and development activities supporting, maintaining, and enhancing applications.
- Experience or knowledge of machine learning.
- Experience programming in Python and with Python ML packages.
- Experience in debugging another developer’s code.
- Dedication to outstanding customer service.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and with a team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Physical Abilities
- Ability to sit for long periods.
- Ability to view computer monitor for long periods.
Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship on your first day of employment to obtain a DOE HSPD-12 Badge in accordance with the terms of the contract. Department of Energy OSTI's policy direction requires all employees employed on this contract to be citizens of the United States.
