The City of Murphy's Information Technology Department seeks to add an IT Support Specialist position to its dynamic team! Under direction of the Information Technology Director, you will assist in managing the City’s technology infrastructure by maintaining the City's software and hardware applications, providing network and desktop computer support, providing customer service, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position will serve as the IT Help Desk and provides a variety of complex administrative and technical systems functions in support of the daily operations of the department.
Schedule Commitment
Regular attendance is essential for this position. The IT Support Specialist works a 40 hour per week schedule with standard work hours of Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule, with two days remote and three days onsite.
Pay Plan
This opportunity is exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #26.
The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.
Min $55,887.35 per year / $26.87 per hour
Mid $67,064.82 per year / $32.24 per hour
Max $78,242.29 per year / $37.62 per hour

Position Duties
- Performs specialized duties in connection with the administration of the operation and maintenance of the City's computer information systems; acts as a Help Desk; Utilizes help desk and ticket system to track and accomplish work orders
- Provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for City software and hardware at all locations.
- Maintains, diagnoses, repairs, and troubleshoots the City’s website and Intranet
- Monitors Internet and Intranet usage, effectiveness, statistics, and security
- Analyzes technical problems related to the computer needs of the City departments and assists staff in evaluating and solving software and hardware problems.
- Provides advanced help with desktop applications by working with customers in troubleshooting situations to help them achieve their goals.
- Provides network and desktop computer support by installing new or existing applications, loading operating systems and required applications onto desktop computers for new and current employees, performing upgrades and software patches as necessary, troubleshooting network, desktop computer and system problems and making necessary repairs.
- Maintains software and hardware by troubleshooting, patching and reloading software, researching and upgrading software patches, planning projects involved in upgrades and maintenance, repairing and replacing broken or defective mechanical, and electrical hardware such as computers, peripherals and cabling.
- Provides customer service by training computer users, instructing users on computer operating system applications, data management, email, graphics, and computer resource management.
- Develop and implement security standards for critical software solutions and server systems
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance.
- Schedule and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
- Perform system administration duties on servers, hyperconverged arrays, and networking devices
- Supports and maintains backups of all City database, application, and file servers.
- Detects, diagnoses, analyzes, and resolves problems associated with hardware, servers, windows operating systems, and critical business software solutions.
- Perform duties in support of the City’s telecommunications infrastructure and user’s requests
- Responsible for IT asset management, maintaining inventory and ensuring proper documentation
- Assist other staff members with day-to-day operations such as answering calls and working on various tasks and projects as needed or as assigned
- Attend council or other nightly meetings when appropriate
- Participate in 24-hour on-call rotation.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible technical experience in computer management information systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policy.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in computer information systems, business administration, or related field;
• Municipal information technology experience

• May be required to pass a drug screen and/or pre-employment job performance assessment
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, and overtime, as needed
• May be required to lift up to thirty (30) pounds of computer equipment
• Participates in on-call rotation
• Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
