OVERVIEW
The purpose of this position, under general supervision is to perform master journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems in support of the USSRC mission, vision, and values.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs pipes, fittings, insulation, valves and associated items for HVAC hot and chilled water piping systems including welding as required.
- Inspects structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening the structure resulting from pipe installation.
- Locates and marks pipe and connection position and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
- Uses hand and power tools to cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
- Uses a pipe cutter and pipe-threading machine to cut and thread pipes.
- Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made from metals or non-metals.
- Joins pipe using screws, bolts, flanges, fittings, solder, plastic solvent
- Tests pipe systems with water or air and reads pressure gauges to ensure system is not leaking.
- Repairs and maintains these appliances by replacing washers, mending leaking pipes and opening clogged drains.
- Studies building plans/blueprints and working drawings to determine required work tools, equipment and sequence of installation.
- Maintains effective, timely, and respectful communication with other employees, manager and supports other organizations.
- Responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment, and spare parts for the plumbing operation.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
High school or GED and completion of trade school preferred. Prefer a Plumbing vocational diploma or a completed apprentice program with a Journeyman certificate and achieved Master Plumbing qualification or have acceptable years of experience.
Required Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintaining and repairing plumbing systems and related equipment OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have the ability to use the tools, equipment, and materials of the field efficiently and safely. Knowledge of applicable US Plumbing Codes and acceptable trade practices required. Gas fitting certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
This position has the following special requirements:
- Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments, buildings, and to travel.
- Sitting for long periods of time (4-6 hours) developing proposals, corresponding with donors, and handling other documents.
- Standing for short periods of time (2-4 hours) conducting presentations to potential donors, agencies, individuals, and officials.
- Carrying and lifting supplies and equipment up to 30lbs waist high.
- Bending, kneeling, and reaching to experience all areas of the USSRC and to conduct tours.
- Sight, reading, wrist movement, and feeling to operate computer terminal, handle documents, operate automobile for travel, and interact with donors.
- Talking and Hearing to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and donors in person and over the telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Factors
Expected Hours of Work:
You will be added to the On-Call facilities staff rotation for accepting call issues that arise during off normal work times. Monday-Friday after hours and Weekends.
Will be on the rotating on-call schedule
