The hours of this position are Monday to Friday from 7:15am to 3:45pm with alternate work schedule during breaks, intersessions, and winter and summer sessions.

The University Libraries empower intellectual exploration through building connections, collections, and community. As an active partner in the University’s academic programs, the libraries are a major contributor to WCU’s core mission of student success. The faculty members serve as both instructors of information literacy and stewards of library resources. The staff members support the operation of the libraries whether it be assisting patrons at help desks, making the various library resources ready for patron use, or providing access to library technology.
Reporting to the Director of Public Services, the Public Services Library Technician supports library spaces and initiatives to promote engagement, collaboration, and a culture of care for West Chester University students and the campus community. This position works collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure quality service at Help Desks; supports the Innovation Media Center (IMC); maintains the lending of non-traditional library items; and opens the library as scheduled.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate customer service experience, excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively; strong project, time management and problem-solving skills; experience working with college student employees; and experience utilizing Springshare Libcal and Libguide modules or similar room booking and web editing applications.
Responsibilities include:
- Staff Library Help Desks to assist with informational, directional, and item inquiries and circulate library materials using current library software
- Assist with the basic maintenance of printers, scanners, and other library equipment
- Maintain library spaces through activities such as attending the Library Spaces Team meetings, managing the room booking system and monitoring space reservation requests, updating library space-related webpages, preparing spaces for events and other activities, and connecting with other campus offices to provide services and resources through established partnerships
- Participate as a member of the Emergency Preparedness Team
- Create brief catalog records in the library service platform for non-traditional library items, such as lockers, sensory items, and supplies and maintain inventory
- Perform production services tasks including large format printing, lamination, comb binding, and 3D printing
- Provide guidance with the use of makerspace technology and tools
- Assist with IMC-related events and programming
- Direct and delegate tasks to Library Assistants and student employees
- Opens and/or closes the building or service desks as scheduled
- Other duties as assigned
Position Duties
- Four years of library-clerical work including two years of advanced library clerical work comparable to the Library Assistant II, and graduation from high school OR
- Two years of advanced library clerical work, and an associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science OR
- A bachelor's degree
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of library techniques, procedures, and working tools used in accessioning, cataloging, circulating, and maintaining library materials
- Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in bibliography preparation and the use of library research materials
- Knowledge of reader comprehension and interest levels of library patrons
- Skill in the application of the techniques and procedures used in cataloging
- Ability to apply library methods and principles in circulation and providing reader services
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library personnel and the public
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience using Alma or related library service platforms
- Experience using Springshare or related applications
- Customer service experience
- Excellent written communication skills
- Microsoft 365 experience
- Experience working with college student employees
