About the Department

The Finance Officer's primary objectives for the Business and Finance Division is to work in accounts payable section to create and monitor purchase requisitions, process invoices, monitor monthly credit card transactions, and perform other payable functions as needed. This position may also assist in Procurement functions of the Department.
 
 Employees at Metro Water Services work around the clock to ensure high quality drinking water, the best in storm water management and wastewater treatment, soil and water conservation, waste and recycling for the residents of Nashville-Davidson County and some surrounding areas. It takes electricians, chemists, engineers, mechanics, information technology workers, customer service representatives, utility equipment operators and more working together to meet our residents’ needs.

Position Duties

  • Provide quality customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Process and reconcile invoices and other payment processes throughout the department.
  • Prepare and enter purchase requisitions, process invoices, and journal entries into the Financial System.
  • Research and resolve payable related questions and concerns with vendors.
  • Monitor and oversee the credit card program or other designated processes as needed.
  • May review and/or prepare procurement documents (solicitation requests, contract amendment requests).
  • Prepare Excel spreadsheets and ERP-system generated reports as needed.
  • Provide financial analysis as needed. 
  • Assist with year-end reconciliation and reporting for annual financial audit.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors’ Degree in a financial related field.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Other Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in enterprise-based financial systems
  • Experience in accounts payable
  • Experience in procurement
