Join our Property Services Facilities Management Team as a Technical Officer, Fire and play a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our buildings and asset infrastructure across the University.
About the Role
Reporting to the Building Maintenance Lead, you will provide expert technical advice and oversight of all fire systems and subsystems across the University’s buildings and will be a key contributor to other building maintenance activities and initiatives. You will ensure that safety equipment and systems are maintained, tested, and operated in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage the performance and compliance of fire plant and equipment.
- Coordinate building maintenance activities and external contractors.
- Maintain accurate service records, logbooks, and compliance documentation.
- Investigate and resolve issues, escalating as required.
- Consult with key stakeholders to identify and evaluate building needs, risks and maintenance requirements.
- Provide technical expertise on building asset lifecycle management and sustainability improvements.
- Support after-hours emergency response as part of the on-call team.
About You
You are a technically skilled and detail-oriented professional with demonstrated experience in fire systems maintenance, testing, and compliance. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with contractors and stakeholders to deliver safe and efficient facilities.
You will bring:
- Trade qualifications and/or equivalent experience in fire systems compliance and a good working knowledge of AFSS is highly desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of fire detection, emergency warning, and suppression systems.
- A thorough understanding of fire safety legislation, codes, standards and compliance and reporting requirements.
- Broad experience in facilities and building maintenance operations.
- Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and contractor management skills.
- Understanding of risk analysis, reporting and issues escalation.
- Ability to work independently and lead the execution of maintenance tasks and initiatives.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience within the higher education or large multi-venue property environments will also be highly regarded.
