About the Department
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide light food and beverage catering service for special District events, oversee annual holiday luncheons, and to operate the Board of Education Building cafeteria.
SUPERVISION:
Positions in this classification are supervised by designated departmental management staff.
Provides technical and functional direction to assigned Cafeteria Workers.
Positions in this classification exercise no supervision.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Takes catering orders from staff throughout the District.
- Consults with originators to clarify order requirements.
- Plans foods, materials, labor, time, etc. required to complete orders.
- Gives work instructions to staff providing assistance and monitors the work performed.
- Prepares food and beverage orders from District facilities and District suppliers.
- Operates a variety of food processing machines and equipment.
- Prepares and assembles foods required by catering orders.
- Uses personal vehicle to deliver catered foods and pick up items ordered.
- Sets up catered foods and beverages for serving at site of consumption.
- Cleans kitchen appliances, equipment, and serving items.
- Prepares periodic reports of catering activity, invoices, and statements, and performs a variety of clerical tasks.
- Performs duties similar to those indicated above with respect to the Board of Education Building staff cafeteria.
- Serves food to cafeteria customers.
- Receives cash, makes change and counts cash received for daily report.
- Upon receipt of foods and beverages, stores them in refrigerator and freezer.
- Performs job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING: (These are the minimum experience and education/training standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for examination):
One year of experience performing food and beverage preparation at or above a Cafeteria Worker in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Catering experience is desirable. -AND- High school graduation or the equivalent.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS (At time of appointment and during employment):
- ServSafe Certificate, provided by the district within 30-days of appointment.
- An appropriate, valid California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION: This is a non-exempt position, Regular Classified Salary Range 33. Most positions in this class work 4-8hours/9-12months. The probationary period for employees in this classification is six (6) months (or 130 working days of paid service).

THE EXAMINATION:
Written Examination. WEIGHT: 100%
Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.
Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.
Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.
This eligibility list will be active for a period of (1) year.
