Wellabe is looking for a Director of Modeling to join our team. This role will focus on providing expertise for actuarial data modeling, focusing primarily on the development, enhancement, and governance of actuarial models used for pricing, forecasting, and risk analysis. They will lead the development and enhancement of models used for pricing, reserving, financial forecasting, and risk management. This positing plays a key role in shaping modeling strategy, ensuring data integrity, and driving innovation across actuarial and finance functions.
Essential functions
- Lead the actuarial modeling team, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and performance management.
- Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of actuarial models across product lines.
- Ensure modeling practices align with regulatory standards, internal governance, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with actuarial, finance, underwriting, and data science teams to ensure models are accurate, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
- Drive innovation in modeling techniques, including the integration of advanced analytics and machine learning where appropriate.
- Manage model documentation, validation, and audit readiness.
- Present modeling results and insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Evaluate and implement modeling software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Success Profile
- Deep expertise in actuarial modeling, data analytics, and risk management.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, modeling frameworks, and governance.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, financial reporting, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong business acumen and ability to influence strategic decisions.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with cloud-based modeling environments and data platforms.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-relevant insights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or equivalent credential with strong progress towards FSA preferred.
- 5+ years of actuarial experience in insurance or financial services.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- Proven experience in actuarial modeling, including software such as Prophet, AXIS, or similar.
- Experience with modeling software such as Prophet, AXIS, or similar.
