This role will be a senior member of Fortitude Re’s Investments team reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO). The role is responsible for shaping and executing investment strategies that support reinsured liabilities and investable surplus. The position will lead the oversight of external managers across Fortitude Re’s $70 billion fixed income portfolio, evaluate and source new asset opportunities, and guide co-investment underwriting. In addition, the role will play a central part in assessing portfolio performance, managing risk exposures, and developing robust stress and scenario analysis frameworks. The position also contributes to the evaluation and due diligence of portfolios tied to potential reinsurance or M&A transactions, with regular engagement and reporting to executive management, the Board of Directors, the Investment Committee, regulators, and other stakeholders.

 

What You Will Do

  • Lead the selection, oversight, and performance management of external managers across Fortitude Re’s $70B fixed income portfolio.
  • Drive co-investment sourcing and underwriting in partnership with asset managers.
  • Identify and evaluate new asset classes and manager relationships to enhance portfolio performance and diversification.
  • Monitor and report on portfolio results, risk positioning, and investment activity to executive management, the Board, investors, and regulators.
  • Develop and maintain performance benchmarks and frameworks to assess manager effectiveness.
  • Oversee portfolio risk analysis, including sector/issuer concentrations, stress testing, and scenario modeling.
  • Conduct investment due diligence on portfolios associated with reinsurance transactions and M&A opportunities.
  • Lead and develop a team, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality output.

 

What You Will Have

  • 20+ years professional experience in insurance asset management, fixed income asset management and/or liability driven investing is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and ability to analyze large amounts of complex data to draw conclusions is a must.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to manage, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strategic, self-starter able to deliver actionable work product when provided only with high-level goals.
  • Very strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills to clearly articulate sophisticated concepts, ideas and processes.
  • Presence and credibility to present effectively to key senior management.
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with internal and external asset managers, accounting, compliance, actuarial, management, and systems personnel from junior staff to executive level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the fields of business, finance or economics or equivalent experience, MBA preferred.
  • CFA preferred, but not required.

The base salary range for this role is listed below and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.

$265,000$310,000 USD
