About the Department

Only current Davis Tech Full Time Welding Faculty will be considered

Supports the College Mission to serve students, employers, and the College community. Supervises high school welding faculty and adjunct faculty. Key duties include hiring, training, and evaluating welding high school faculty and staff. Act as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) liaison for welding program with high schools.  Provides quality job skills training in a safe, clean environment. Maintains a positive and productive learning environment by working collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and College partners.

Position Duties

  1. Instructs students, reviews prior learning, evaluates performance, and promptly enters accurate student data in the student information system.
  2. Participates in the hiring of new high school program faculty and trains new instructors, including modeling best practices in classroom management and instruction. Provides ongoing mentorship to high school faculty members.
  3. Conducts performance evaluations for all high school employees in the program according to the Employee Evaluation Plan Policy and Procedures.
  4. Conducts any disciplinary measures when appropriate in coordination with the lead faculty, Program Director, and Human Resources Department.
  5. Leads in cooperatively developing and working within the assigned program budget.
  6. Monitors work schedules, hours, and timecards for all high school program faculty.
  7. Delivers instruction using the designated course curriculum and assessments.
  8. Works closely with CTE coordinators and serves as the point of contact, including requests from college departments and administration.
  9. Leads high school faculty engagement with students.    
  10. Supports Student Success Plans (SSPs),
  11. Fosters a professional, collegial environment among program faculty while actively collaborating with other College divisions and departments to support initiatives such as marketing, public relations, grant writing, accreditation efforts, and student success measures.
  12. Promotes job readiness, encourages professionalism and good work habits, and assists students in seeking and finding employment.
  13. Encourages faculty to act professionally and fosters a collaborative and respectful environment with the department and with external partners.  
  14. Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly training area by: ensuring there are adequate supplies to support continuous instruction; monitoring responsible use of supplies and equipment; and requesting and maintaining equipment as appropriate.
  15. Orients new students to classroom facilities, technology, program/classroom performance, behavior expectations, procedures, and safety.
  16. With the aid of the Educational Excellence (EdEx) team and guided by Advisory Committee feedback, develops and drives curriculum according to defined criteria outlined in the Curriculum Quality Checklist.
  17. Builds and maintains relationships with industry partners and develops and participates in Occupational Advisory Committee(s).
  18. Advises students regarding appropriate course selection, graduation requirements, and skills USA.
  19. Addresses, collaborates, and resolves issues affecting student success by coordinating with Student Support services.
  20. Communicates institutional and program information to other program faculty, including high school faculty and program support personnel.
  21. Participates in professional development opportunities.
  22. Communicates and collaborates with other College divisions and departments to achieve success on projects such as marketing, public relations, grant writing, programmatic, and institutional accreditation.
  23. May assist in the development and instruction of custom courses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must hold Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or obtain a CWI certification within 3 years of being in this role.   
  • Must have four (4) years of related welding experience.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and instill industry-related concepts and skills
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in navigating a computer and basic computer functions.
  • Ability to foster a productive learning environment.
  • Must be able to deliver instruction in a variety of methods and produce instructional outcomes.
  • Must have proven ability to lead, including the ability to act as an advocate for the College in all partnerships.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.   
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Teaching credentials preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Position will be working evening shifts until 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday. May be required to enter or teach at off-campus worksites, if applicable.
  • Must be capable of performing routine physical activities associated with the training program, including the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, and demonstrate proper physical requirements associated with performing job functions
