About the Department

The Maintenance Worker – Forestry cares for the City’s trees and landscaped areas by pruning, planting, removing, and inspecting trees. They respond to storm events, operate equipment safely, assist with snow removal, and help keep parks and public spaces healthy, safe, and attractive.

This position is non-exempt (hourly) with a starting wage of $34.00 per hour, equivalent to $70,720 annually, and the first review of applications will take place on Monday, October 27.  Learn more about the Maintenance Worker, Forestry position here.

Position Duties

The Maintenance Worker – Forestry values people and perspectives by:

• Respond quickly to storm events and urgent situations.

• Pruning, maintaining, and planting trees and other plants to industry standards.

• Safely removing trees, including using aerial lifts and rope-and-saddle climbing for work at heights over 25 feet.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• Three years of related experience in tree pruning, tree removal, tree planting, aerial lift operation, and rope-and-saddle tree climbing.
• Knowledge of tree species, diseases, insects, and treatments required. 
• State Tree Inspector, ISA Certified Arborist, MnDOT Certified Landscape Specialist, and Pesticide Applicator license required or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 9 months
• Local government experience preferred
