About This Opportunity 

The Senior Principal Data Analyst will provide data analytics, reporting, modelling and data visualisation support to the EAIT Faculty as part of the Learning Enhancement Team. This includes data extraction, cleaning and analysis; student load modelling; plan, program and curriculum learning visualisation and analysis; thematic analysis of student feedback, student progression outcomes and other data analysis and reporting as required to meet the Faculty’s learning and student experience goals. This position will span all areas of the teaching and learning portfolio but retain a particular focus on supporting the forthcoming engineering accreditation process.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Extract, aggregate, visualise, and report relevant data and curriculum information to support accreditation of programs.

  • Analyse and interpret data from university systems to enhance information quality and support evidence-based decision-making.

  • Develop, test, and monitor learning performance metrics and indicators affecting students and academics.

  • Collaborate with Planning and Business Intelligence to analyse market data for potential new academic programs.

  • Advise senior management on emerging data needs related to learning and learner performance, proposing strategies for data collection.

  • Design, build, and present clear reports and visualizations using tools like Python, R, SPSS, Tableau, Power BI, and UQ systems.

About You

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards relevant postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience within the educational sector; extensive relevant experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Understanding of the development and implementation of performance indicator frameworks as they might be applied to learning analytics. 

  • High level computer competency, including the ability to use modelling, statistical analysis and visualisation software, together with supporting technologies such network and cloud-based storage frameworks.

  • Experience in the use of statistical software such as R, SPSS or similar tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to extract and manipulate complex data-sets and proven high level conceptual and analytical skills for investigating issues, problem-solving and interpreting trends, policies and practices.

  • A proven ability to be highly organised and self-managing, including a demonstrated capacity to establish work priorities, meet timelines and achieve project management priorities, work independently and accept responsibility.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills (including written and verbal communication), with experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to provide advice and negotiate to achieve desired outcomes. 

  • An understanding and awareness of the environment and current issues in higher education is desirable.

  • Experience in the use of the Business Objects and/or Tableau data management tool would be well-regarded.
