Position Summary

The Utility/Custodian plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient facility environment. This position supports both building custodial needs and grounds maintenance, performs light facility upkeep, and assists with basic maintenance or utility tasks as assigned. The Utility/Custodian is also responsible for completing required paperwork accurately and timely and ensuring that building and exterior areas are maintained in compliance with company and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform general custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning restrooms, breakrooms, offices, and production areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the facility and dispose of waste properly.
  • Maintain outside grounds including lawn care, snow removal, debris pickup, and general upkeep of exterior walkways and parking areas.
  • Clean and maintain bug lights, light fixtures, and ceiling vents on a scheduled basis.
  • Support pest-control efforts by ensuring designated areas remain clear and sanitary.
  • Assist maintenance staff with basic utility or facility upkeep tasks as directed (e.g., light bulb replacement, basic repairs, cleaning equipment).
  • Safely operate cleaning tools and equipment, including power washers, floor scrubbers, and lawn maintenance tools.
  • Complete all required paperwork, checklists, and maintenance logs accurately and on time.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Identify and report any safety hazards, facility damage, or equipment malfunctions to supervision promptly.
  • Participate in general plant support activities as assigned to maintain overall operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Experience: Prior custodial, janitorial, or maintenance support experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and complete documentation accurately.
    • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals, safety data sheets (SDS), and safe handling procedures.
    • Dependable and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and warehouse environment; exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • May require occasional outdoor work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must adhere to all plant safety and cleanliness standards.
