SUMMARY:

The Production Engineer I plays a pivotal role in overseeing the manufacturing process to ensure high-quality work is completed safely and efficiently. This role involves liaising with other engineers to develop plans that enhance product quality, reduce costs, and improve process reliability. The Production Engineer I will support production operations, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure production drawings and documentation are accurate and up-to-date, adhering to proper revision control and engineering practices.
  • Monitor the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical problems and assist production with issues arising from design or supplier errors.
  • Provide technical support to production teams to resolve on-the-floor issues.
  • Assist the purchasing department in sourcing replacement components and working with outside vendors to resolve quality issues.
  • Order samples and expedite components for evaluation, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
  • Participate in the research and compilation of technical information related to component selection and vendor sourcing.
  • Evaluate new components and materials to support product development and production needs.
  • Lead training sessions for production employees on topics such as soldering, crimping, as well as assisting with cross-training initiatives in different production cells.
  • Develop and implement training materials to enhance the skills of production personnel.
  • Support the transition of products from engineering to production, including inventory transfer and review of assembly drawings and manuals.
  • Initiate and facilitate continuous process improvement by analyzing new and existing production procedures.
  • Maximize the concepts of lean manufacturing to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Drive initiatives for continuous process improvement, focusing on enhancing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement best practices in manufacturing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience with electronic and mechanical design required
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot electronic assemblies.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and performing basic electronic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to solder and work with electronic components.
  • Experience with engineering drawings and specifications of electrical/mechanical parts.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, Epicor or related MRP/ERP systems, and general MS Windows applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
