Summary
The Unlicensed Boatman is responsible for independently operating and maintaining small vessels used for transportation, support services, or site operations. This role includes navigating waterways, assisting with docking and mooring, performing routine vessel maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures. The Boatman must demonstrate sound judgment, reliability, and a strong understanding of maritime safety practices.
The pay rate for this position is $28.00-$32.00/hour.
Travel will be required to company project sites throughout Florida and the Southeast United States.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- Safely operate and navigate small boats used for transporting personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Deploy, retrieve, and secure anchors as needed for vessel positioning or mooring operations.
- Assist in loading, unloading, and positioning pipe sections on vessels or at job sites, ensuring safe and efficient movement.
- Provide logistical support for marine construction, dredging, or oil spill response activities.
- Assist with docking procedures, securing vessels, and managing lines.
- Perform basic cleaning, fueling, and mechanical checks to ensure vessel readiness.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and securing heavy equipment.
- Know and understand all safety requirements regarding maritime operations.
- Requires the ability to properly wear, use, and maintain personal respirator equipment and other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) on HAZWOPER sites.
- Monitor the job site for hazards, challenge unauthorized personnel on the job site, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, including eye contact with ground personnel, and recognize job site-specific hazards.
- Maintain logs related to vessel operations and maintenance activities.
- Possess good communication skills as well as take direction from environmental staff in all phases of field operations.
- Learn and follow safety regulations.
- Take action to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
- Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
- Coordinate boat actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of experience working as a Boatman
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous working experience in the dredging industry
- OSHA 30
- First Aid & CPR Certification
- Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Physical Demands
- Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment and other related components.
- Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, or as business needs dictate
