Description

BASIC FUNCTION

The GED Instructor & Online Learning Coordinator supports adult learners enrolled in Goodwill’s GED preparation program by providing individualized and/or small group academic tutoring as well as administrative oversight of student progress. This position advances Goodwill’s mission of developing self-sufficient individuals through education, work, and career services by helping learners successfully complete their GED and transition into employment or post-secondary education.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring in core GED subject areas (Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies).
  • Monitor online student activity, attendance, and progress through digital learning platform.
  • Conduct regular student check-ins via phone, email, or video conference to encourage engagement and persistence.
  • Develop and maintain individualized learning plans and intervention strategies for students at risk of disengagement.
  • Track and document student data accurately.
  • Administer and proctor placement, practice, and post-assessments for online learners, ensuring testing integrity.
  • Collaborate with Career Services, Helms College, and other departments to connect students with wraparound support services and career pathways.
  • Support new student onboarding and orientation for online GED participants.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development to enhance instructional and administrative effectiveness.
  • Uphold Goodwill’s core values of service, accountability, ownership, and respect in all duties.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Virtual Instruction: Skilled in delivering engaging and effective online lessons using multiple platforms.
  • Tutoring & Coaching: Provides individualized academic support tailored to each learner’s needs and learning style.
  • Student Engagement: Builds rapport and maintains consistent communication to promote motivation and course completion.
  • Technology Integration: Proficient in online learning management systems and virtual communication tools (MS Teams, Aztec, Canvas, etc.).
  • Data Management: Accurately maintains digital student records, attendance logs, and assessment data for reporting. 
  • Program Administration: Coordinates testing schedules, manages enrollment processes, and ensures compliance with program guidelines.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrates sensitivity to learners from diverse educational, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Mission Alignment: Supports Goodwill’s commitment to transforming lives through education, employment, and empowerment.

Qualifications


 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, or related field required.
  • Experience in GED preparation, adult education, or online tutoring preferred.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms required.
  • Experience working with non-traditional or at-risk learners preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus – ability to support multilingual learners is highly valued.
  • Must be aligned with and energized by Rev. Edgar Helm's faith-based social enterprise model to eliminate poverty one career at a time.
