Overview

The Radiation Therapist delivers high doses of ionizing radiation to specific areas of the patient?s body for the treatment of disease, specifically cancer. This role follows specific treatment plans created by radiation oncologists, which outline the type, dose, and duration of radiation therapy required for each patient. This role uses advanced technology such as linear accelerators and other radiation delivery devices to precisely direct radiation beams to the targeted area.

Responsibilities

Follows treatment plans and parameters to deliver precise radiation doses to targeted areas, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.Positions and immobilizes patients on treatment tables, ensuring they are in the correct posture for effective radiation targeting.Conducts pre-treatment verifications, which involve ensuring that equipment settings align with the prescribed treatment plan.Conducts procedure simulations and provides patients with explanations about treatment procedures, potential side effects, and what to expect during their sessions.Offers patients emotional support, addressing concerns and promoting a comfortable treatment experience. Implements measures to protect patients, staff, and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure during treatment sessions.Documents treatment details, equipment settings, patient reactions, and any observations.Monitors patients for any adverse reactions and communicate effectively with the healthcare team about any changes or concerns.Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:Required: Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology programEXPERIENCE:Preferred: 2 years of experience as a registered radiation therapistLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Candidatar-se agora
