Summary:

Under general direction of the System Cardiovascular Director, the manager is responsible for planning, organizing and directing of the operations and staff (clinical and non-clinical) of the Cardiovascular Department. This position maintains 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the quality of care and services provided to the customers.

This position maintains administrative, operational and fiscal responsibility and ensures that procedures are performed in a safe, efficient manner that is cost effective. This position will have responsibilities in MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena. The Cardiovascular Department will comprise of cardiovascular diagnostics, Invasive imaging, including procedures such as TEEs and cardioversions. The manager will be initially be responsible for cardiovascular diagnostics and the other areas will be pulled in a phased manner.

Responsibilities:

 

(35%)* Acquires and maintains highly competent staff through hiring, training, performance appraisals, discipline and on-going education.

 

(35%)* Monitors daily activities to ensure courteous, efficient, quality care. The delivery of such care is dependent upon cost effectiveness and timeliness.

 

(20%)* Ensures adequate resources at all times. Logistics are impacted by research, ordering, and inventory control and vendor relationships.

 

(10%)* Establishes quality assurance guidelines, in concert with the Medical Director, to assure appropriateness of care and overall quality.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Fosters good lines of communication between other departments, as well as other referral centers. Enhances the relationships with the medical staff by working closely with the Medical Director.

Combines schedules of staff, physicians and patients to allow for timely performance of diagnostic studies and procedures, while realizing the needs of each group.

 

Develops a realistic budget to include staffing, supplies, staff development and other essentials to deliver quality diagnostic services.

 

Facilitates the implementation of programs through planning and research.

 

Remains involved in developing goals and marketing the programs to all affected areas.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

 

Knowledge of nursing management as normally acquired through three years’ or greater experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting with involvement in supervision, charge nurse, project implementation, professional development program, shared governance leadership role, or equivalent.

 

Organizational skills needed to effectively run a department.

 

Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

 

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

 

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

 

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

 

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

 

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

 

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

 

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

 

Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
