The Cardiac Thoracic OR Surgical Technologist (CT OR Tech) is responsible for creating and maintaining a sterile environment, proper handling and care of surgical instruments and equipment and passing those instruments to the surgeon and/or assistant for use during surgery. The CT OR Tech is an expert in theory and application of aseptic technique, possess an understanding of the procedures that are being performed and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon while maintaining the sterile field.

The compensation range for the role is $44.31-$50.98 hourly
Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) OR an Accrediting Bureau of Health Education School (ABHES)-accredited Surgical Technology Program OR military surgical technology program required;
- Completion of fifteen (15) hours of continuing education on an annual basis is required to remain qualified to practice as a surgical technologist.
Minimum Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience as a cardiac surgical technologist is preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital setting required.
- Vascular and Thoracic surgery experience preferred.
Required Certification/Registration:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology, Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) is required.
- Current and active BLS is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
Working Conditions:
- Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.
- Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.
- Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
