POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ice Cream Warehouse Manager is a key leadership role within our warehouse department, responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of warehouse operations including dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage. This includes strategic planning, staff management, inventory control, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The Warehouse Manager drives operational excellence and continuous improvement to meet and exceed performance expectations with the highest regard for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage warehouse operations including receiving, warehousing, and shipping for ice cream and powder blending operations.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellence in receiving, identifying, dispatching, and assuring the quality of goods.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators for warehouse activities and employee performance.
  • Oversee inventory management and storage optimization.
  • Ensure accuracy of shipments and inventory transactions.
  • Establish job expectations and provide coaching and development for warehouse staff.
  • Determine staffing levels, recruit, and assign workload effectively.
  • Serve as primary contact for customer inquiries and issue resolution.
  • Maintain accurate records and utilize reports to assess warehouse status.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement innovative work procedures and practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate activities and ensure smooth operations. 

Quality

  • Ensure warehouse and corridor cleanliness in accordance with SSOPs.
  • Verify hold and release status for all products prior to shipping.
  • Confirm correct code dates, lot numbers, and product data against manifests.
  • Oversee sample collection and labeling in accordance with SOPs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of work instructions, manifests, purchase orders, and sanitation logs.
  • Manage interdepartmental transport of materials.

Cost

  • Ensure proper operation of forklifts and equipment to minimize product and facility damage.
  • Ensure equipment is operated in accordance with SOPs.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory on inventory control, product hold and release, and issue resolution.
  • Work with Packaging team to maintain efficient product flow, space utilization, and material storage.
  • Support the “Dry Floor” program by monitoring for leaks and spills and taking corrective action.
  • Oversee weight control checks in accordance with SOPs.

Delivery

  • Ensure timely start and operation of equipment per shipping plan.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and innovation in warehouse processes.
  • Maintain authority for personnel actions and oversee day-to-day operations of the shipping department.
  • Manage plant product inventory and reconciliation in coordination with Production Supervisor and Plant Manager.

Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and plant safety regulations.
  • Promote safety improvements and communicate concerns to Production Supervisor.
  • Maintain valid forklift operating license and ensure staff certifications are current.

Morale

  • Maintain effective staffing levels and personnel structure.
  • Plan and coordinate work, train and motivate staff, monitor performance, and manage disciplinary actions.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment and support employee involvement.
  • Utilize plant meetings to communicate ideas and suggestions for operational improvements.
  • Prepare and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Manage a team of warehouse employees.
     

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate Degree and/or 5 + years industry-related experience.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated reliability and value-add through service and responsibility in previous roles.

  • Effective supervisory skills and techniques.
  • Proficiency in warehouse software and MS Office.

Physical Requirements:

  • Environmental exposure to warehouses stored at ambient (60-70° F), refrigerated (35° F), and frozen (minus 20° F) temperatures. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for short distances on a regular basis.
  • Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time on concrete.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist on a regular basis.
  • Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any direction.
  • Pushing: Using the upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at the knee to come to rest on the knee or knees occasionally.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Lifting: Able to lift up to 25lbs on a regular basis and up to 75lbs occasionally.
    Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Occasional crawling and bending in a confined space for continuous periods of time.
  • Subject to up to at least 92db’s.

 Equipment/Machines Operated:

  • Forklifts, pallet jacks, palletizers, stretch wrappers, printing equipment, dock doors, dock levelers, miscellaneous packaging equipment, personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, phone, and hand tools.
