The Dams, Levees, and Civil Works Business Class (DLCW BC) is a multi-disciplinary team that works on a wide variety of complex multi-benefit projects focused on dams, levees, and civil works for local, state, and federal clients. Civil works encompasses the construction and maintenance of physical structures and infrastructure, which can include multi-disciplinary components such as riverine control structures, roads, bridges, buildings, and other major infrastructure elements. Projects range from inspection, to planning, to Risk Informed Decision Making, to analysis and design, to construction support. The primary focus of the DLCW BC Leader is to plan, direct, and oversee internal operations of the BC, grow the external visibility of HDR’s DLCW program, as well as provide support to the DLCW team on delivery and quality.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Dams Levees and Civil Works Business Class Lead, we'll count on you to:
Support Central Texas Water Resources Management Market Sector initiatives, projects, marketing, clients, growth, BC coordination, and maintain open communication with staff and the CTX leadership team
Assist and lead Section Managers on tasks related to BC operations with a focus on local and national workload support, staffing needs, and coordination of hiring efforts
Lead coordination of Central Texas staffing needs and project support
Manage risk related to delivery of DLCW projects and support project teams as needed
Work with Central Texas’s leadership team to address issues related to delivery and quality, to support and lead communications, and to obtain approvals for BC operations
Coordinate with regional and national DLCW team and BC Director, as needed
Assist and/or lead pursuits and participate in capturing planning processes and/or driving business development opportunities
Assist and/or lead pursuits of a variety of projects
Prepare and/or review scopes and fees related to DLCW BC projects
Lead, mentor, and support mid and senior level staff
Grow the DLCW team through recruiting
Commitment to actively manage the BC, staff, and provide timely as needed support
Proactively plan, organize, track, and evaluate BC work and support needs
Provide and assist with technical reviews and provide guidance related to design and construction, agency coordination, and overall project implementation
Manage, lead, assist with, and/or provide oversight on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects in support of preparation of studies, designs, design documentation, criteria, and cost estimates
Perform technical engineering assignments that may require critical thinking and creativity to address unique elements that have limited or no specific code-based guidance
Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering preferred, other degrees in engineering, hydraulics, water resources, or a related field from an accredited four year college or university also considered
Minimum of fifteen years of related work experience, including experience in conceptual, preliminary, and final design of DLCW water projects
Maintains a Professional Engineering registration and has related technical experience
Proven business development in the Central Texas Region, with an understanding of measurable goals
Experience with hydrology, hydraulic/drainage design, and AutoCad Civil3D/Microstation, and other DLCW design software.
Ability to function as a leader and an active team player in a diverse multidisciplinary environment
Experience with liaising with and coordinating staff at all levels
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Organized and mission driven
Prior business development experience
Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
