United Veterinary Care (UVC) is currently hiring a Director of Procurement to join our team.  We are seeking an experienced and strategic procurement leader to direct and coordinate all aspects of our organization’s purchasing strategy—both direct (cost of goods sold) and indirect (products and services that support internal operations). This role will develop and implement procurement policies, procedures, and objectives; oversee our procurement technology platform; and serve as a trusted resource for internal stakeholders including the COO, department heads, and hospital partners. The ideal candidate will bring strong financial acumen, exceptional communication skills, and a collaborative approach to drive financial due diligence, manage supplier relationships, and promote a sustainable and profitable supply chain. The Director of Procurement will work in a hybrid remote work setting and report directly to Senior Leadership.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Management: 
  • Establishes and implements short- and long-term core goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and assesses programmatic and operational performance, making changes as necessary for improvement.
  • Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively achieve the organization's goals and objectives; manages recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff within the unit in partnership with the Senior Strategic Purchasing Manager.
  • Develops and manages the organization's annual budgets and conducts regular cost and productivity analyses.
  • Acts as a negotiator between UVC and suppliers on major procurement contracts; stays informed of all new developments related to available resources; offers recommendations to reduce costs and update systems.
  • Reviews major procurement contracts, overseeing contract compliance, change orders, and issue resolution in accordance with contract law; consults with legal counsel as needed.
  • Creates, develops, and executes strategies to generate resources and revenue for the organization.
  • Supervise the Senior Strategic Purchasing Manager, who in turn oversees the Procurement Team.
  • Manage all procurement communications with our hospital partners to ensure consistency and clarity.
Procurement Process: 
  • Manage and support UVC’s daily procurement activities, including overseeing UVC’s procurement system. 
  • Serve as a resource for internal stakeholders (e.g., hospital partners) and external stakeholders (e.g., suppliers) with questions or issues related to the Coupa. 
  • Review and approve policy exceptions in collaboration with COO/CFO for purchases submitted by UVC’s support center and hospital partners; and assist UVC’s hospital partners with any issues related to their supply orders or suppliers. 
  • Collaborate with IT to manage punchouts, catalogs, and items within Coupa, ensuring all products and pricing are current. 
  • Oversee the end-to-end supplier onboarding process. 
  • Develop and keep documentation on UVC’s procurement policies and procedures. 
 
Strategic Supplier Management 
  • Define the overall procurement strategy for planning, organizing, leading, measuring, and analyzing the sourcing of direct and indirect goods and services. 
  • Continuous review and analysis of the strategy are necessary to adapt to changes in market dynamics, develop strategies, recommend and implement solutions, and adjust based on demands. 
  • Develop and execute key strategic programs and projects to meet the needs of the UVC. 
  • Formulate an enhanced centralized procurement program that adds value and boosts efficiency to UVC. 
  • Manage the development of procedures to ensure that goods and services are available to business units and that inventory levels remain sufficient to support the business. 
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Business degree or bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Multi-location retail and healthcare experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of Coupa with implementation/roll-out experience.
  • Sage Intacct experience, a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, including advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts of databases, filtering data, and use of mathematical, logical, and financial functions within Microsoft Excel.
  • Possess sound business knowledge in procurement and have delivered standardized or customized solutions to meet business needs.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities or reprioritize projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic and willing to go the extra mile.
  • Takes initiative and addresses issues with an analytical mindset.
  • Performs well under pressure and is used to strict deadline requirements. 
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
