La Jolla Country Day School is seeking a compassionate and service-oriented on-call Nurse to support our Wellness Team on an as-needed basis when others on our nursing team are off campus.
This vital campus role is responsible for supporting the health and wellness of students, faculty, and staff. Nurses play a key role in maintaining a safe and supportive school environment by completing health assessments, providing direct care, health education, and preventive services. As a liaison between families, school personnel, and community health resources, this position is central to the wellbeing of our school community.
This is a dynamic, student-facing role that requires clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, community-driven educational environment.

What You’ll Do
Health Services & Direct Care
Provide assessments and first aid for student injuries and illnesses.
Monitor and manage chronic health conditions and individualized care plans.
Maintain and evaluate student health records and immunizations.
Screen for vision, hearing, scoliosis, and other health concerns.
Provide emergency response and coordinate with outside medical professionals when necessary.
Health Education & Counseling
Offer counseling and guidance to students on health, wellness, and lifestyle choices.
Support families in understanding and managing student health needs.
Coordination & Compliance
Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and healthcare providers.
Ensure compliance with school health policies, state regulations, and best practices.
Who You Are
Clinically Skilled: Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse with pediatric or school-based experience.
Detail-Oriented: Able to maintain accurate records, follow protocols, and manage student health plans.
Caring & Calm Under Pressure: A compassionate presence who remains steady in emergencies.
Excellent Communicator: Able to explain health matters clearly to students, parents, and staff.
Team-Oriented: Collaborative by nature, and excited to work with educators, families, and administrators.

Qualifications
Active state RN or NP license and bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field.
BLS certification required.
Experience with electronic health records; familiarity with Blackbaud and August Schools is a plus.
Proficient with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office; comfortable with learning new systems.
Must pass a Live Scan fingerprint background check and provide current TB clearance.
Work Environment
This is an on-call, in-person, campus-based role. You must be available to work on short notice, including same-day needs.
A typical work day starts at 8 am and ends at 3:30 pm.
Requires the ability to walk around campus and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
Regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, and families.
Typical school setting with moderate noise levels; may vary during school events.
Exposure to blood, body fluids, and illness is possible.
Salary Range
This is an hourly paid position. The offer to a successful candidate will depend on several factors, including experience, education, and applicable skills.
