Education and Experience: One (1) year of general work experience.

Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require a Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent from another state.

Position Duties

Under immediate supervision, perform a variety of tasks providing unskilled or semi-skilled tasks supporting the collection and disposal of solid waste or other work in support of operations and delivery of City services.

Minimum Qualifications

Provide and perform general or specific semi-skilled or unskilled manual labor, and other work. Involves: Collection of solid waste materials for disposal, reuse and recycling, container management, property clean up.  Rides on back of a garbage or recycling collection truck and collect solid waste materials on a designated route. Lift garbage or recycling bin by hand and empty into truck, or operate crane to lift bins. Operate packer machinery on vehicle to pack refuse. Directs driver when pulling out in traffic and backing up garbage or recycling collection truck, stake bed, roll-off, pick-up trucks and heavy equipment. Utilize tools, materials, equipment, instruments or supplies associated with the area of assignment.  

May perform other duties as assigned. Involves: Direct and assist landfill customers to proper dumping areas. Sort recyclables. Distribute informational pamphlets to departments, customers and the public.  Assemble and distribute waste/recycling containers. Clean windblown trash from along roadsides and within a two-mile radius of public landfill. Clean vehicle interiors and exteriors. Collect and lift dead animals for disposal purposes. Read maps and plan routes throughout the City. Identify and/or perform basic service and repair work. Prepare and present daily documentation logs, work orders and reports, as assigned. Perform manual labor as required by work assignment. Work in crews or work independently when assigned to do so. Perform duties of other personnel as necessary to provide continuity of operations during absences.
