ASSISTANT COORDINATOR - BEHAVIOR

Department/Program: Residential

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Position Status: Full-Time

Salary: $25.60/hr - $29.68/hr

Reports to: Program Coordinator

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Assistant Coordinator supports the Program Coordinator in managing the daily operations of a residential home, providing strong support and structure to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role involves daily engagement and interaction with clients, supporting them in all aspects of their daily support, accompanying them on outings, and providing transportation assistance. The Assistant Coordinator also takes a lead role in training new staff, manages complex client issues, and advocates for clients' needs. Essential skills include effective communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In a manner consistent with supporting the Life Works mission statement and values, the Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Anticipates client needs and delivers high quality service
  • Maintains regular communication with clients to ensure ongoing engagement
  • Accompanies clients on outings and activities
  • Provides transportation for clients per the Agency’s MVR review and test.  
  • Leads in providing necessary instructions, knowledge, and understanding of the support desired by clients as outlined in their Individualized Instructional Support Plans (IISP) and other support plans
  • Implements, as written, positive behavior support plans (PSBP) 
  • Follows up on treatment plans, recommendations, and procedures for clients
  • Manages complex client issues, including behaviors, medical, family-related, and work-related matters
  • Advocates for clients, providing additional support to help them acquire personal needs and interact socially with family, friends, and the community
  • Attends client service planning meeting
  • Assists with rewriting or updating plans as needed
  • Takes a lead role in managing the clients' money handling and budgeting processes, including writing checks for personal items, receiving and depositing funds, and verifying the accuracy of client check registers
  • Assists with client medication management
  • Attends medical appointments to address complex issues
  • Identifies and responds to clients' medical needs
  • Immediately report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the appropriate state reporting agencies
  • Adhere to all company policies
  • Completes all required documentation accurately and promptly, as directed by Life Works, the coordinator, or any other designated leader
  • Adapts to various forms of communication, including ASL
  • Communicates promptly with leadership about changes that may affect staff or clients
  • Communicates program issues with the Program Coordinator or Director
  • Assists with all staff training
  • Supports the progress of new hires and evaluates the effectiveness of training
  • Identifies and addresses training needs requested or needed by staff
  • Manages weekly staff schedules proactively based on clients' needs and staff levels
  • Provides backup coverage when needed at the program, such as during illnesses, vacations, and other emergencies
  • Performs on-call duties as needed, including weekends, to provide supervisory staff coverage
  • Oversees the duties of the program in the absence of a Program Coordinator
  • Performs indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks as needed around the program 
  • Meet all WAC state training requirements yearly 
  • Participate and host mandatory scheduled staff meeting and agency required trainings 
  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance at regularly scheduled hours 
  • Be able to work a variety of shifts 
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

EDUCATION:

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent 

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. 
  • Leadership experience preferred 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must obtain criminal clearances as required. These could include: the Washington criminal history check, FBI criminal history check, and child abuse clearances in accordance with DSHS regulations.  
  • Must complete required TB test (if applicable)  
  • Must be nurse delegated for client medication administration 
  • Must have the 12-hour Peer Coach Training 
  • Valid driver’s license with driving record that meets agency policy.  
  • Must pass a drug screen. 
  • Have a current CPR/First aid certification required or must obtain.  
  • Obtain Right Response Certification
  • Able to be an approved signer for checkbooks

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficient in working with databases and navigating computer software (Therap, When I Work, ADP, etc.)
  • Demonstrates excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. CHILDRENS PROGRAM ONLY – Must be 21 years of age and have at least six months experience working with vulnerable populations  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Must have essential physical skills – be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ own body weight), push and pull against potential resistance; and be able to implement non-physical and physical interventions and CPR with people supported when needed.  
  • Must be able to lift and transfer clients who need such assistance  
  • Must have adequate vision, reading, writing and documentation skills and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.  
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to the required schedule for the job. 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, overnights (as applicable) and holidays.
  • Must be able to provide assistance, as needed, in safely loading and unloading vehicle passengers and assist individuals to safety in emergency situations.
