POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Staff Claim Adjuster provides prompt, cost effective and efficient examination, investigation, evaluation, and payment of insurance claims by exercising independent decision-making skills and judgment within designated authority.  This position is responsible for managing a claims inventory with a level of complexity ranging from basic wind/hail claims to complex and high exposure losses.  The Field Staff Claim Adjuster must demonstrate an understanding of insurance principles, claims investigation, damage evaluation, and resolution of property claims and the ability to create a positive customer experience. 

Must reside in or near Corpus Christi and Nueces County. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are the usual, basic and essential functions of the. However, this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties by the incumbent.   • Demonstrates a customer centric attitude
  • Analyzes and manages claims by verifying coverage and investigating and gathering pertinent information to determine the exposure on the claim
  • Maintains well-developed action plans for an appropriate and timely resolution in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Recognizes and properly addresses coverage issues, potential fraud, and subrogation potential
  • Calculates and assigns timely and appropriate reserves to claims; monitors reserve adequacy throughout the life of the claim
  • Inspects properties in a specified area and creates detailed estimates of damages.  
  • Documents losses submitted by Policy Holders with photos, diagrams and gathering available information
  • Conducts detailed damage and bill reviews and controls claim expenses
  • Pays and processes claims within designated authority level or denies payments where no coverage, liability, or compensability exists
  • Enters claim payments and reserves on claims on computer system, inputting concise and accurate file documentation
  • Drafts clear and concise correspondence to the claim stakeholders
  • Communicates decisions in a clear and professional manner

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years’ experience inspecting P&C Residential Property.
  • Texas Adjuster License
  • Valid driver’s license with safe driving record and reliable vehicle
  • Proficient with preparing estimates using Xactimate level 1
  • Ability to travel to customer’s homes and handle claims throughout assigned territory

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s/Associates degree
  • AIC, and/or CPCU designation or demonstrated progress toward actively achieving the designation
  • Haag Certification 
  • Construction experience

 

PHYSICAL AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must reside within heavy policy concentrated areas.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours and to travel frequently with possible overnight travel
  • Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT)  
  • Must be able to work from home when not inspecting losses 
  • Cognitive ability to review and interpret policy coverage to determine amounts payable following a loss 
  • Ability to climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect damages
  • Ability to sit, hear, converse over the telephone, and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time
