Join us as a Bulk Department Manager!

We are seeking a Bulk Department Manager for our Mt Airy location. This is a full-time, exempt position, working an estimated 40-45 hours per week. Reporting to the Grocery Manager, the Bulk Department Manager is responsible for assisting with the operation and management of the grocery department by selecting and obtaining bulk grocery products, supervising bulk staff and cooperators, and being accountable for meeting established objectives for sales, margin, and customer service. Responsibilities

Purchasing:

  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices and terms, quality and delivery.
  • Evaluate current and research new suppliers and products.
  • Evaluate turns quarterly by pulling item movement reports of best-sellers and slow-movers and adjust assortment accordingly.
  • Ensure proper receiving by department staff according to procedures,
  • Review invoices for pricing and discount accuracy; ensuring accurate separation of inventory categories and subcategories.
  • Participate in quarterly inventory counts.

Merchandising:

  • Order merchandise and maintain inventory control to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks, maximize sales, and turnover.
  • Ensure that shelves and coolers are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness and turnover.
  • Set stocking priorities for department staff; stock items as needed.
  • Plan attractive displays; order sufficient merchandise to stock displays for period of display; do periodic comparisons with competitors.
  • Maintain sales floor for cleanliness and appearance according to established standards.
  • Set pricing to meet margin goals; mark-down items as needed to reduce losses.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price labeling of department items.
  • Adhere to all product policies and notify vendors of policies when purchasing new products.

Customer Service:

  • Treat people fairly, courteously, and with respect
  • Ensure quick response to customer questions and concerns.
  • Process preorders in a timely manner and communicate with members as needed.

Financial Performance:

  • Develop and administer a departmental budget with assistance of the Store Manager.
  • Attain sales and margin goals for the department.
  • Review departmental financial reports; take corrective action as needed.

Personnel:

  • Hire, train, and supervise Bulk Department staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Scheduling of Bulk Department staff.
  • Hold departmental staff meetings monthly.

Other Duties:

  • Attend management or other meetings if scheduled and as directed
  • Ensure, in coordination with the Store Manager, that all areas meet lawful standards for food handling safety and carry out sanitation inspections monthly.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Store or General Manager.

  • Ability to develop and manage a departmental budget.
  • Proven math skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, use stairs, and be on feet for long periods.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and using email.
  • Be, or become upon hiring, a member in good standing of Weavers Way Co-op.
