CalAIM Billing Specialist 

 

Housing Matters partners with individuals and families to create pathways out of their homelessness into permanent housing. The CalAIM Billing Specialist administers CalAIM processes from eligibility review and service authorization to service documentation and invoicing. Working under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the CalAIM Billing Specialist supports Housing Matters program staff to increase and maintain CalAIM utilization.

The CalAIM Billing Specialist is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position, eligible for our generous benefits plan:

Regular hours are Monday through Friday. 

 

Starting Wage (Offer is Dependent on Experience):

 

$30.00, $30.90, $31.83, $32.78, $33.76, $34.77


 

Preferred Experience/ Education Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the duties of this position.
  • 2 years of experience processing data in a medical field or social services. 
  • Ability to understand complex and changing policies and provide instruction to staff.
  • Ability to follow a complex workflow that incorporates multiple databases, portals, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to identify issues, conduct research, gather and interpret information and data, utilize various reporting methods, and make logical recommendations for action.
  • Ability to identify issues requiring input or guidance from supervisor or partner staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and phone etiquette skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, spreadsheets and databases; and related software.

 

 

Typical Job Duties:

 

  • Identify health plan eligibility.
  • Submit authorization requests for CalAIM services.
  • Track CalAIM authorizations and advise staff on needed re-submissions.
  •  Review HMIS reports for enrollment and documentation tasks.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for billing.
  • Access provider portals, HMIS databases, FTP servers, clearing houses and other data sources.
  • Submit CalAIM claims.
  • Review, reconcile, and correct CalAIM claims (denied claims, HMIS data, etc).
  • Coordinate with Housing Matters program staff   
  • Provide feedback on denied claims, processes, and other issues to Housing Matters staff and the health plan.
  • Assess the feasibility of CalAIM requirements, analyze options, and participate in coordination meetings with the health plan and other partners.
