Your Mission (Should You Choose to Accept)
- Deliver engaging, play-based therapy sessions under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Support treatment goals and implement individualized therapy plans that help children succeed at home, school, and in the community.
- Track progress, document sessions, and share updates with the therapy team and caregivers.
- Collaborate with OTs and other professionals to ensure coordinated, holistic care.
- Help maintain a positive, safe, and motivating therapy environment that sparks growth and confidence.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Certification: Current NBCOT certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
- Licensure: Active DC and Virginia COTA license (or eligibility to obtain required)
- Experience:
- At least 1 year of pediatric experience preferred, but motivated new graduates are welcome to apply!
- Experience supporting children with developmental delays, sensory processing differences, fine/visual motor, and self-regulation challenges preferred
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Familiarity with evidence-based pediatric practices and a willingness to learn under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist
- Strong critical thinking, communication, organization, and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while following established treatment plans
- Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office, EMR systems, and iPads
- Certifications & Clearances:
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Negative TB test and background check

Role of the Pediatric Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at Skills on the Hill
As a member of our superhero team, the COTA works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to help children reach their highest potential through purposeful play and meaningful activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Engage children in play-based activities to support fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing, self-help, and social-emotional development
- Observe and document children’s progress and communicate updates to the supervising OT and caregivers
- Assist in administering selected assessments and gathering data to inform treatment planning
- Provide parent, caregiver, and teacher education under the guidance of the OT
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive, holistic care
- Maintain organized and timely documentation in compliance with company standards and state regulations

- Feeding and oral-motor difficulties

Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching during treatment sessions
- Ability to lift, position, or support children as needed for therapeutic activities
- Comfortable engaging in active, play-based therapy that may include floor work or use of sensory-motor equipment
