 About the Position

Reporting to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer, the Director of Campus Safety provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of all campus safety, security, and emergency management functions. This role ensures the safety of Cushing’s students, faculty, staff, and visitors while fostering a culture of trust, respect, and preparedness.

The Director oversees the contracted safety personnel, coordinates closely with local law enforcement and emergency services, and manages the systems, training, and policies that support the Academy’s safety goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, organize, and direct all aspects of campus safety operations, ensuring a proactive and responsive approach to security and emergency preparedness.
• Manage relationships with contracted security firms and supervise in-house safety personnel.
• Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate campus safety policies, procedures, and protocols consistent with Academy standards and best practices.
• Coordinate safety education and emergency training for students, faculty, and staff, including ALICE and RAVE system management.
• Oversee key safety technologies, including CCTV surveillance, building access control systems, the Rave emergency notification system, and other safety-related technologies.
• Serve as the primary contact and liaison with local, county, and state law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
• Collaborate closely with facilities and administrative teams to ensure safe and compliant operations across all campus buildings and grounds.
• Respond to emergencies, oversee investigations, and ensure proper incident documentation and reporting.
• Manage budgets and maintain accurate safety and compliance records.
• Lead Cushing’s Campus Safety and Security Committee.
   

Requirements

 Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field, preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of five years in safety/security management or public safety, including at least three years in a supervisory capacity. Experience in a residential or educational environment preferred.
  Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across a diverse school community.
  • Expertise in safety and emergency management principles, including knowledge of relevant state and federal laws.
  • Proficiency with technology-based safety tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Certifications: CPR, First Aid, Basic Life Support, and First Responder (or ability to obtain within six months).
• Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license, successful background check, and availability to respond to emergencies during evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

Physical & Work Environment

This position requires the ability to move quickly across campus, work in varying weather conditions, and occasionally lift or assist with heavy loads in emergency situations. The Director must be prepared to manage high-stress or rapidly evolving circumstances with calm and sound judgment.
