GMC has an opening for Environmental Scientist I in Nashville, TN to support a variety of on-going biological resources-related projects. The ideal candidate will be involved with a variety of tasks including supporting biological and ecological field work, preparing technical reports and plans in accordance with regulatory requirements, and assisting the biological resources team during environmental project review. This role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions that effectively address environmental challenges such as pollution control, natural resource management, and ecosystem restoration.
Essential knowledge, functions, and responsibilities include:
- General knowledge base should include familiarity with biological/ecological processes, wetland and/or stream science, botany and/or wildlife, and regulatory permitting concepts.
- Responsible to provide functional assistance to biological/ecological field teams during site assessments and data collection to include wetland delineations, stream determinations, flora and faunal surveys (including threatened and endangered species), natural resource permitting, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process documentation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with project managers, other field personnel, clients, regulatory agency personnel, and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor in a biology-related field such as Biology, Ecology, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, Soil Science, or Geology
- 0-3 Years of experience
- Physically able to perform demanding field work, often in unfavorable conditions (inclement weather, intense heat or cold, biting insects, etc.)
- Excellent organizational ability with professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Basic understanding of and ability to use GPS equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Phase I Environmental Site Assessment experience
- Basic southeast US native and non-native vegetation identification
- General knowledge of the flora, fauna, and vegetative communities of Tennessee and the southeast.
- Exposure or experience with Tennessee Hydrologic Determinations (HDs) and/or US Army Corp of Engineers Wetland Delineation methods.
- Exposure or experience with environmental permitting and natural resource assessment methodologies such as the Tennessee Stream Quantification Tool (TN SQT) or the Tennessee Rapid Assessment Method for Wetlands.
- Actively pursuing Tennessee Hydrologic Professional (QHP) and/or Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification.[JW5]
- Experienced with using GPS/GIS technology to collect field survey data.
- Basic ability to use ArcPro and/or AutoCAD software.
Field Work and Travel requirements:
- 40% Field Work /60% Office Work.
- Overnight travel may be required multiple days during the calendar year.
