The Parent Child Center (PCC) is the home of Shoreline's youngest learners. The PCC is a licensed childcare facility and early-learning lab located on the campus of Shoreline College. We participate in Washington State's Early Achievers program and serve Shoreline College students, employees, and community members.
 
 Under the direct supervision of the Parent Child Center Director, this position serves as a Lead Teacher in the Preschool classroom and performs senior/specialist level early childhood classroom duties. Responsibilities include planning, presenting and evaluating activities for children and providing information to parents on childcare techniques.

Primary responsibilities include the following: 

  • Prepare, present, manage and clean-up daily projects, materials, and activities
  • Ensure ongoing supervision, active monitoring and guidance of children at all times
  • Maintain compliance with and implement childcare licensing requirements and regulations 
  • Ensure the ongoing maintenance of a healthy and safe environment classroom environment
  • Assess the needs/learning levels of children, establish and work towards learning goals
  • Discuss progress of children with parents and address parent concerns
  • Maintain written observations and other pertinent records
  • Responsible for serving and clean-up of meals and snacks within classroom at assigned times
  • Supervise part-time staff in your classroom

Position Duties

Required Education & Experience:

  • AA in Early Childhood Education or related field; AND 
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children six (6) weeks to five (5) years of age in a group setting; OR equivalent experience

Position Licensing Requirements
  • Current CPR and First Aid training OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Completion of the Washington State Training and Registration Systems (STARS) Basic training OR the ability to qualify as exempt within 30 days of employment
  • Current Food Handlers permit OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Current TB test (must have negative test prior to employment)
  • Current Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (may require fingerprinting)
  • Blood borne pathogen training OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Knowledge Of: 
  • Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs
  • Early Achievers guidelines and requirements
  • Early Childhood Education theory and practices including child development, developmentally appropriate practices, observation and ongoing assessment, individualized planning, and special services
  • Public Health sanitation and safety standards
  • Washington State Department of Early Learning Licensing Requirements and National Association for the Education of Young Children’s performance standards

Skill In: 
  • Ability to work with a wide range of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner. 
  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College
  • Effective listening and communication, including conflict resolution
  • Developing and maintaining a classroom environment/routine and child management
  • Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities
  • Fostering a climate of belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems
  • Establishing/maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Work Environment: 

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally and 30 lbs. frequently
  • Must be able to push 300 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor and/or squat and return to standing frequently
  • Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Ability to communicate in English both in person and through other appropriate means.

Terms Of Employment/Salary: 
This position is allocated to pay range 48 under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
