Position Title: Pre-K Instructional Assistant/Floating Classroom Support
Salary Range:

Immediate Supervisor: Certified Teacher, Pre-K Principal, Principal
Position Overview:
If a licensed Pre-K teacher or Instructional Assistant is absent the IA/Classroom Support Teacher will fill the role of the Instructional Assistant in that room. If there are no Pre-K staff absences the Instructional Assistant will assist in a classroom as assigned by the Pre-K Principal. This role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, professional collaboration with co-teachers as well as the ability to interpret prepared lessons and successfully instruct students using these materials. Other position requirements are provided below.
BASIC FUNCTIONS :
- Monitor students during arrival, recess and dismissal times
- Assist in classroom instruction under the general education guidelines under the direct supervision of a certified teacher
- Assist students in following classroom schedule
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Follow all employee practices listed in the Paraprofessional Employee Agreement
- Work in close physical proximity of the classroom teacher
- Follow the teacher’s plan and help evaluate the achievement of students with whom the instructional assistant works
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- A Pre-K Instructional Assistant/Floating Classroom Support is assigned to a Pre-K classrooms at one of the eight elementary schools: Clay International Academy, Harrison, Lincoln, Marshall, Muessel, McKinley, Nuner or Swanson and reports to the Pre-K Principal and building Principal unless directed otherwise
- On- time arrival is 7:00 am for Harrison, Lincoln, Marshall, Muessel, Nuner, Swanson and 8:00 for Clay International Academy and McKinley
- Remain at school during the entire school day unless excused by the Pre-K principal or the designated representative
- Support classroom instruction and student learning as directed by the lead teacher in the classroom
- Maintain, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school, classroom and position to which assigned
- Follow lesson plans and directions with the support of Pre-K staff in the classroom
- Perform all extra duties for the absent employee as required by the building principal (including the taking of student attendance, recess, arrival and dismissal duties)
- Assist students as needed to achieve learning goals
- Use positive reinforcement
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of the elements of effective instruction to assist teaching
and learning as developed by the certified staff
- Collect data for differentiated learning, student selection and evaluation as requested
- Maintain adequate records on student work and work cooperatively with student services staff members and/or outside agencies as required
- Perform other duties consistent with the position as may be requested by the principal or Pre-K principal
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Exhibit professional appearance and behavior to serve as a role model for students
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education
- Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing in school readiness, positive behavior interventions and appropriate redirections for preK students.
- Willingness to participate in pre and ongoing training programs
- Consideration will be given to those who have already completed High Scope training and have additional early-childhood training
